Start with the employer’s written policy
Identify the relocation contact, permitted vendors, approval steps, reimbursement categories and submission deadlines. Keep preapproval requirements separate from costs that can be claimed afterward. This page does not assume an employer benefit or establish eligibility. The policy and employer’s answers determine what support is available.
Map the housing plan to the reporting date
Work backward from the date you must be available, allowing for a house-hunting visit, temporary accommodation and a fallback if the property transaction takes longer than planned. If a current home must sell, record when its proceeds are needed for the new purchase. Give the lender and settlement provider the relevant timing constraints before treating a preferred date as workable.
Keep the personal and employer files separate
Use a housing brief for area preferences, property needs and purchase or sale decisions. Use a benefits file for approvals, invoices and reimbursement records. Share sensitive documents only through the appropriate organization’s secure process. Agree who handles real-estate communication and who answers benefit or employment questions; those are different responsibilities.
